St. Monica’s Edible Learning Garden
Imagine a quiet, secluded space full of butterflies, hummingbirds, fresh fruits and vegetables, a small gurgling fountain and the smell of jasmine, rosemary and basil lingering in the air. The ancient Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Chinese, Persian and Assyrian cultures all considered gardens to be an earthly form of paradise. Beautiful gardens have also held a long tradition within the Catholic Church as places of refuge from the hardships of life and a space for peace and reflection.
With the gracious enthusiasm of Kindergarten teacher, Miss Cano and new 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Shula and the generous backing of our parents, we are hoping to transform a small concrete space outside of Miss Cano’s kindergarten classroom into a little corner of paradise for all of our kids to enjoy. The St. Monica’s Edible Learning Garden will be a place that enhances students’ education and sensory experience in a unique and unforgettable way.
Teachers and parents with a love of gardening and food are more than welcome to participate in the creation and upkeep of our Edible Learning Garden.
To really make our garden sing we are looking for monetary contributions or donations of such items as terracotta pots, a garden hose, gloves, organic gardening soil and gardening tools.
God Bless,
Miss Cano & Mrs. Gonzalez
Most of what I really need to know about how to live, and what to do, and what to be, I learned in kindergarten.Wisdom was not the top of the graduate school mountain, But there in the sandbox at nursery school.Wash your hands before you eat.
Flush.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life.
Learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and work everyday some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out into the world, watch for traffic, hold hands, and stick together.
Be aware of wonder.
